What is More Expensive: Roof repair or Changing a Roof?

Posted on

Making the right decision about your roofing system ensures optimal performance of your home’s comfort as well as security. It also gives you total peace of mind. In fact, making a good decision is the key to minimizing costs related to big home improvement projects, such as roofing. So, what is more expensive: roof repair or changing a roof? A good decision is the one that is made before hiring a roofing contractor.

First of all, you should determine whether you want to simply patch leaks and damaged areas, or you want to do complete roofing. Remember both decisions have cost consequences anyway.

Bear in mind that replacing shingles as a result of wind damage can be somehow inexpensive as compared to replacing the entire roof. In fact, you can save a lot of money by just removing the torn or damaged shingles and slipping into place new ones. If you are planning to sell your house at a future date, make sure you use shingles that match as closely as possible. A house with unmatched shingles looks unattractive and may not attract potential buyers.

If the damage is confined to one side of the roof, consider doing partial re-roofing. This is likely going to save you thousands of dollars than doing the entire roofing. You can blend new with old when repairing a section of your roof since slight colour differences will not be highly noticeable.

Again, you should note that installing a new roof can be cheaper in the long run. Even if it is only one section of roof that shows tear and wear, it is advisable to do the entire roofing. This is likely going to be inexpensive than doing part of the job now and the remainder in a few years to come.

Now, what is better: roof repair or changing a roof? This depends on your budget. If your budget is small, then prefer repairing to replacing. But if you have a big budget, whole roof replacement can be viable. It also depends on whether or not you wish to sell your home. If you are planning to sell your house in a new future, consider replacing the whole roofing system. That way, your house will look fantastic and is likely going to fetch you good money.

Nice post and comparison. It's always better to think twice before deciding and if you have enough money then it's better to replace it.

The comparison drawn between roof repair and roof replacement is amazingly penned. I, however, think it's a smart decision to call up a professional roof repair company to determine whether you need to repair your roof or replace it. After all, who understand their profession better than them?

Hi Kendall, i appreciate your post, you clarify very well comparison between roof repair or changing roof. as my point of view if the much damage on roof instead of repair should to replace with new one because once you pay in replacing its pinch one time but repairing again and again pinch all the time while repairing.

It would also be a good idea to hire a roofing contractor to let them determine whether or not you need a repair or replacement. That way you can let the professionals decide which would be the best option. It would be awful to only repair the roof when it really needs replacing.
